Steven Grant, M.D., F.A.C.P., has over two decades of experience in leading physician

organizations, both as independent organizations and in partnership with hospitals. Dr.

Grant served as Executive Vice President of Physician Partnerships for the Detroit

Medical Center (DMC) from April 2010 through April 2013. During this period, Dr. Grant

cultivated relationships between private practice physicians and the hospital system. He

spearheaded the DMC’s effort to transform physician care across its hospitals and how

coordinated care would play into the national health care reform effort. He led the effort

to create the DMC Physician Hospital Organization, a multispeciality PHO, and was its

first, and only, Executive Director.

Dr. Grant was the co-founder and, from 2000 until 2010, served as President and CEO

of United Physicians. With more than 2,000 physicians and 100,000 covered HMO lives,

United Physicians was one of the largest physician organizations in Michigan.

Dr. Grant was the co-founder and former Chairman of my1HIE (“my1 health information

exchange”) which focused on the physician-patient relationship and the role of physician

engagement in advancing health information technology.

Dr. Grant is a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the

Great Detroit Area Health Council. Dr. Grant also serves as chairperson for GDAHC’s

Performance Measurement and Public Reporting Team. His leadership with GDAHC

has been instrumental in securing broad physician participation across GDAHC

initiatives, and in helping to launch the first in Michigan, and one of the first in the

country, online multi-payer provider performance report.

Since 1979, Dr. Grant has had a private practice in general internal medicine. He is a

Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is an assistant clinical professor at

Wayne State University School of Medicine. He received his Bachelor of Arts and

Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan and completed his residency in

Internal Medicine at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.
